Baranof Park Storage Building

The parks and recreation department would like to attach a shed -type root to the west
end of the new building in Baranof Park that is comprised of two 20' steel containers
with a 24' span between them that is covered by a trussed roof.
The shed roof would have a 2/12 pitch and a 16' span. It would be supported by posts
and would initially not be walled in. The intention being to possibly enclose it
sometime in the future.
We need to know the dimensions and spacing needed for 1.) the posts, 2.) the beams
that support the rafters, and 3.) the rafters. Since roof sheathing may be plywood with
metal roofing or translucent plastic (for light), we need to know bracing needed in
case plastic is used instead of plywood.

bleachers. The surface they sit on needs to be widened to provide an aisle in front of the
bottom row of seats. It also needs to be elevated to the same height as the adjacent

14.04.070 Temporary structures. Temporary structures, buildings, sheds, canopies,
mobile homes, freight containers, and fences designed for protection of the public, which
are reasonably necessary to a construction project, may be erected, located, or maintained
only by special permit from the building official, and then for a period of not more than
180 days. The fee for this special permit shall be established by resolution or motion of
the city council. These temporary structures shall be completely removed at the
expiration of the time limit stated in such permit.
(a) No certificate of occupancy or certification of project completion shall be issued until the
temporary structure is removed.
(b) If the building official feels it is necessary to do a reinspection after a job has been

17.33.010 Description and intent. The PL- Public Use Lands Zoning District is established as
a land use district for publicly owned land containing recreational, educational and institutional
uses. For the public lands district, in promoting the general purposes of this title, the specific
intentions of this chapter are:
A. To identify lands owned by governments that are used for public purposes;
B. To prohibit residential, commercial and industrial land uses and any other use of the land
which would interfere ► ith -- the - development- orcontinuation of public services in the district; and
C. To encourage the discontinuance of existing uses that are not permitted under this chapter.

Expiration: A zoning compliance permit will become null and void if the building or use authorized by such permit is not commenced with 180 days from the date of issuance, or, if the building construction or use is abandoned at any time,
after the work is commenced, for a period of 180 days. Before such work can be recommenced, a new permit shall be first obtained to do so. (Sec. 303 (d) Expiration, 1991 Uniform Building Code) per KIBC 17.03.060
