March 10, 2011, 2 pm
Kodiak Island Borough Conference Room
A meeting was held on March 10, and advertised in the Kodiak Mirror
for the proper amount of time. Residents of Mission Lake were
contacted by Marian Johnson and invited to the meeting.
Al Burch, member, attended with Borough employees Robert Tucker
and Eddie Arellano that handle maintenance of the gate.
The tide gate has worked well over the past year and KIB is keeping
watch during the high tide events for debris. The duck fence is installed
for a brief period of time when the ducklings are small. Debris is picked
up by residents when the ice and snow are gone. Many use the beach for
picnics, walking dogs, and putting garden kelp in their vehicles. It is a
public area created by the tide gate that allows visitation by the Kodiak
residents. Beverly Horn mentioned there have been no silver salmon in
the creek that bypasses her property this past year.
Funding for the tide gate maintenance should remain the same as last
year. The spring thaw has not happened at this time, and during that
period the tide gate works handling the run off.
There is a need for a third person to volunteer to be part of the board
but so far that has not happened.
