Regular and Special Election on October 6, 1987, at which time
candidates for the following offices to be filled were voted on:

"Shall the Kodiak Island Borough adopt sales tax powers and levy a sales
tax equal to one percent (1%) of sales, rents and on services provided
in the Borough?"
and: Proposition No. 2 (Advisory)
"Shall a committee be established to investigate the advantages and
disadvantages of consolidation and present these facts to the public at
the 1988 Regular Election with the question of forming a Charter
Commission to. prepare a charter for the consolidation of the Kodiak
Island Borough and the City of Kodiak as a single home rule government
for submission to the voters for their approval or rejection?"
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough
THAT the Assembly finds and hereby ratifies and declares the
results of the Regular and Special Election held within the Kodiak
Island Borough on Tuesday, October 6, 1987, to be as follows:
THAT for the position of Borough Mayor for two -year term, the
following votes were cast:
TEROME M. SELBY receiveA 1922 .,..te0: and own** were 120
miscellaneous votes cast,
THEREFORE, it is declared that JEROME M. SELBY has been
elected for two -year seat.
THAT for the position of Borough Assembly for three -year
terms, the following votes were cast:
JAMES L. FISK, JR. received 432 votes; SUSAN H. HAMILTON
received 923 votes; JACK McFARLAND received 1390 votes: TOM MERRIMAN
received 1270 votes; TOM PETERSON received 760 votes; FRANK J. ROSETTI
received 182 votes; and LORNE E. (LONNIE) WHITE received 1046 votes, and
there were 8 miscellaneous votes cast,

THEREFORE, it is declared that JACK McFARLAND, TOM MERRIMAN
and LORNE E. (LONNIE: WHITE have been elected for three -year seats.
THAT for the position of School Board Member for three -year
terms the following votes were cast:
R. DAVID HERRNSTEEN received 1585 votes; BILL OLIVER received
1189 votes; and PETER J. PROBASCO received 1098 votes,
THEREFORE, it is declared that R. DAVID HERRNSTEEN and BILL
OLIVER have been elected for three -year seats.
THAT for the position of School Board Member for two -year term
the following votes were cast:
CHERYL BARNES - MCNEIL received 1318 votes; CLIFF FORD received
443 votes; PERRY L. PAGE received 409 votes; and there were B
miscellaneous votes cast:
THEREFORE, it is declared that CHERYL BARNES - McNEIL has been
elected for two -year seat.
THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Bayview
Road Service Area for three -year term the following votes were cast:
DAVE KUBIAK received 3 write -in votes; and REED OSWALT
received 3 write -in votes; and, there were 4 miscellaneous write -in
votes cast,
THEREFORE, it is declared that DAVE KUBIAK and REED OSWALT
will draw lots to determine the winner of this three -year seat.
THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the
Monashka Bay Service Area for a three -year term the following votes were
cast:
BILL SWEARINGIN received 5 write -in votes; SID PRUITT received
2 write -in votes; and, there were 9 miscellaneous write -in votes cast,
THEREFORE, it is declared that BILL SWEARINGIN has been
elected for a three -year seat.
THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the
Monashka Bay Service Area for a one -year term the following votes were
cast:
ERIC BLANXENBURG received 3 write -in votes; SHAWN DILLON
received 2 write -in votes; THOMAS KANOKE received 2 write -in votes; and,
there were 12 miscellaneous write -in votes cast,
THEREFORE, it is declared that ERIC BLANKENBURG has been
elected for a one -year seat.
THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the
Womens Bay Service Area for three -year terms the following votes were
cast:
CARL HAYES received 107 votes; ED GONDEK received 11 write -in
votes; CHARLES MADSEN received 4 write -in votes; and, there were 29
miscellaneous write -in votes east,
THEREFORE, it is declared that CARL HAYES, ED GONDEK and
CHARLES MADSEN have been elected for three -year seats.
THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Fire
Protection District No. 1 for three -year terms the following votes were
cast:
SCOTT ARNDT received 21 write -in votes; VERNON BERNS received
12 write -in votes; CHARLES LORENSON received 19 write -in votes; MARTHA
RANDOLPH received 10 write -in votes; BARBARA SWEARINGIN received 11
write -in votes; KYLE TAYLOR received 12 write -in votes; and, there were
98 miscellaneous write -in votes cast,
THEREFORE, it is declared that SCOTT ARNDT and CHARLES
LORENSON have been elected for three -year seats.
THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Service
District No. 1 for three -year terms the following votes were cast:
OKEY CHANDLER received 188 votes; GORDON GOULD received 240
votes; TONY PEREZ received 172 votes; and, there were 49 miscellaneous
write -in votes cast,

THEREFORE, it is declared that OKEY CHANDLER, GORDON GOULD and
TONY PEREZ have been elected for three -year seats.
THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Service
District No. 1 for a one -year term the following votes were cast:
BUD CASSIDY received 2 write -in votes; MARX MAJDIC received 2
write -in votes; JOHN PARKER received 2 write -in votes; BOB PEDERSON
received 2 write -in votes; TONA PEREZ received 2 write -in votes; and,
MARTHA RANDOLPH received 12 write -in votes,
THEREFORE, it is declared that MARTHA RANDOLPH has been
elected for a one -year seat.
THAT Proposition No. 1 on the question of areawide sales tax,
received 454 YES votes and 1743 NO votes, THEREFORE, an areawide sales
tax is defeated.
THAT Proposition No. 2 on the question of formation of a
consolidation committee, received 1392 YES votes and 771 NO votes,
THEREFORE, a consolidation committee will be formed.
