1987-54 Urging the Legislature to Increase Drug and Alcohol Abuse Enforcement, Prevention, and Treatment.A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY URGING THE
LEGISLATURE TO INCREASE DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE ENFORCEMENT, PREVENTION AND
TREATMENT.
WHEREAS. alcohol and drug abuse are causing the biggest social
problems In the United States and especially in Alaska, costing 860 billion
per year in terms of lost productivity end other cost, and
WHEREAS, the adults and youth of the Kodiak Island Borough have
dscldsd it is time to •say no• to drugs.
NOW. THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
that Governor Steve Cowper and the Alaska Legislators ar• urged to adopt
legislation which will accomplish the following:
ATTEST:
1. Increase penalties and minimum sentence* for drug sad alcohol
offenses. particularly drug dealer*.
2. Increase fluidise for lam •nfor comsat, particularly at the state
trooper division and put • higher priority on alcohol and drug
off
S. Increase luadiag for public education and p lion programs,
particularly in the school systems.
4. Increase fondleg for rehabilitation programs, particularly
multi- agency coordinated p ams for adolescents.
6. Review Slate Statutes to Ideetily and correct Inconsistent statutes
dealing with Illegal drug p ion. and
Congress are urged to i
