A RESOLUTION OF THE K001AK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY ESTABLISHINr A
KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH FISHERIES COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough economy is built upon th fishing
industry, and
WHEREAS, sound management of the fisheries for a sustai •d yield is
in the best economic interest of everyone living on Kodiak Ill d. and
WHEREAS, there are a number of agencies invoL S i data collection,
data analysis and recommendation for resource •I font i(pG2f r various speei•s of
.fish but no one 'goody that can provide the Kodiak Borough with the
'.entire picture of the fish rveo„roes, and
WHEREAS, a key premise of United Stateos Go •rnment is that the bast
information and decision can be made at the lot al •vel by people who ars
_'involved in the area. and
WHEREAS, the fish resource around •diet Island are so rich that

many interests are continually jockeying to position to obtain or control
WHEREAS. Kodiak Island people • interests are best pursued and
protected by resid•sts of Kodiak Isla d.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the National Marine Fisheries Sent

ships to meet with the Commission when the ships are in Kodiak and to provide
all NMFS data concerning the Gulf of Alaska to the Commission.
