1987-12 State Funding for Public RadioA RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY ENDORSING
CONTINUED STATE FUNDING FOR PUBLIC RADIO AND PUBLIC RADIO STATION KMXT
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Alaska has recommended no
funding for public broadcasting in the state in fiscal year 1988, and
WHEREAS, public broadcasting radio stations are an important part of
the communications system throughout rural Alaska, often serving as the only
local source of information, and
WHEREAS, the radio station KMXT has been in service to the Kodiak
community for the past eleven years, and
WHEREAS. KMXT has additionally provided its signal to all the
villages on the island for the past four years via translators, and
WHEREAS, KMXT is the Federal Communications Commission designated
primary Emergency Broadcast station for the Kodiak area. Includ ing the
villages, and
WHEREAS, all Kodiak Island Borough Assembly meetings as well as the
meetings of the Kodiak Island Borough School Board and other special 3orough
meetings are broadcast live on KMXT, and

WHEREAS, it is not reasonable for an important pubiic service program
on a statewide basis to take a 100 percent cut instead of a be : ■g-,tenioy
