CREATION IN THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF A FISHERIES DEVELOPMENT POLICY COOROINATO1
POSITION.
WHEREAS, Kodiak Island it well known throughout the world for its
fishing industry; and
WHEREAS, the fishing industry is currently diversifying because of
biological end economic 'conditions; and
WHEREAS, the creation of the position received the unanimous support
of the Southwest Municipal Conference, the Southeast Municipal Conference, and
other coastal communities at the recent coalition meeting held in Juneau; and
WHEREAS, Kodiak and other coastal communities need representation in
the decision - making process of developing Alaskan fisheries; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Alaska needs to take a strong
leadership position on fishery issues which can only be accomplished by a
coordinated approach through one key position for fishery policy in the
Governor's office.
NOW. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
that the creation in the Governor's Office of a position for a fisheries
development policy coordinator is hereby respectfully proposed to Governor
Cowper.
