1985-107 Urging The State Legislature To Investigate Tort Reform And The Reasons Behind The Unavailability Of Certain Lines Of Insurance.4 A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO INVESTIGATE TORT REFORM AND THE REASONS BEHIND THE UNAVAILABIL- ITY OF CERTAIN LINES OF INSURANCE. WHEREAS, insurance rates have increased astronomically and this has caused businesses to close and has created a financial burden on taxpayers in Alaska, and WHEREAS, municipal insurance rates have increased as much as 500% in some areas, and WHEREAS, day care operators, air carriers, truckers, contractors, CHARR affiliated businesses, doctors, and architects are in many cases unable to obtain any insurance, and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough feels strongly that an investiga- tion into causes should be made and a solution to this problem must be found this year. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly that the Office of the Governor and the Alaska State Legislature are urged to immediately pursue all avenues available to solve this problem and find a way to provide insurance in Alaska.
