A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY RATIFYING
AND CONFIRMING THE RESULTS OF THE OCTOBER 1, 1985 REGULAR ELECTION.
WHEREAS, Pursuant to Law, the Kodiak Island Borough held a
Regular Municipal Election in the Borough on Tuesday, the 1st day of
October, 1985, at which time candidates for the following offices to be
filled were voted on:
One (1) Borough Mayor for a two -year term; Two (2) Borough
Assemblymen for three -year terms; Two (2) School Board Members for three -year
terms; Three (3) Women's Bay Service Area Advisory Board Members for three -year
terms; One (1) Women's Bay Service Area Advisory Board Member for a two -year
unexpired term; Two (2) Mill Bay - Island Lake - Spruce Cape Service Area Advisory
Board Members for three -year terms; One (1) Mill Bay - Island Lake - Spruce Cape
Service Area Advisory Board Member for a two -year unexpired term; Two (2) Fire

One (1) Monashka Bay Road Service District Advisory Board Member for a two -year
unexpired term; PROPOSITION No. 1. (Mill Bay - Island Lake - Spruce Cape Service
Area, Service District No.1) on the question "Shall the boundary of Mill
Bay - Island Lake- Spruce Cape (Service District No. 1) be altered by the addition!
of the following described area:
Lot 4, Block 6, Monashka Bay Alaska Subdivision, Plat No. 68 -8; Lots 21 through
23, Block 7, Monashka Bay Alaska Subdivision, Plat No. 68 -8; Lots 1 through 6,
Block 1, Miller Point Subdivision, Plat No. 67 -3; Abercrombie Drive (Miller
Point Road), Miller Point Alaska Subdivision, Plat No. 67 -3; Except the State of
Alaska highway right -of -way lying within Miller Point Alaska Subdivision, Plat
No. 67 -3."
PROPOSITION NO. 1. (Monashka Bay Road Service District) on the question "Shall
the boundary df the Monashka Bay Road Service Area be altered by the addition ofl
the following described area:
All of that portion of land lying within Sections 20 and 21, Township 27 South,
Range 19 West, Seward Meridian, Alaska, platted as Monashka Bay Alaska
Subdivision, and recorded in the Kodiak Recording District on September 9, 1968,,
Plat No. 68 -8; Except the State of Alaska highway right -of -way lying within
onashka Bay Alaska Subdivision, and Lot 4, Block 6 and Lots 21 through 23,
Block 7, Monashka Bay Alaska Subdivision."
PROPOSITION NO. 1. (Fire Protection Area Number One) "Shall the boundary of
Fire Protection District No. One be altered by the addition of the following
described area:
11 of that portion of Land lying within Sections 19, 20, 29, and 30, Township
27 South, Range 19 West, Seward Meridian, Alaska, platted as City of Kodiak
Sanitary Landfill Site Survey, Plat No. 69 -10; survey of state land creating
tact "A ", Plat No. 70 -1; Sawmill Subdivision, Lots 1 and 2, Plat No. 84 -46."
WHEREAS, the returns of said election have been delivered to and
canvassed by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly:
Section 1: That the Assembly finds and hereby ratifies and declares
the results of the Regular Municipal Election held within the Kodiak Island
Borough on Tuesday, October 1, 1985 to be as follows:
THAT for the position of Mayor for a two -year term, the following
votes were cast:
DENNIS MURRAY received 878 votes; JEROME SELBY received 1398 votes;
and 14 miscellaneous write -in votes were cast,
Therefore, it is declared that JEROME SELBY has been elected.
THAT for the position of Assemblymen for three -year terms, the
following votes were cast:
ALAN D. AUSTERMAN received 1234 votes; KEN GREGG received 968 votes;
EDWARD B. JACK received 507 votes; THOMAS H. PETERSON received 949 votes; MARK 1
M. WHITE received 529 votes; and 10 miscellaneous write -in votes were cast,
Therefore, it is declared that ALAN AUSTERMAN and KEN GREGG have been elected.
THAT for the position of School Board Members for three -year terms,
the following votes were cast:
SUZANNE J. HANCOCK received 1450 votes; ALICE KNOWLES received
1633 votes; CLIFF STONE received 995 votes, and 7 miscellaneous write -in votes
were cast,
Therefore, it is hereby declared that SUZANNE HANCOCX and ALICE KNOWLES have
been elected for three -year seats.
THAT for the positions of Service District Advisory Board Members £ox
the Women's Bay Service Area three -year terms, the following votes were cast:
WAYNE R. BERRY received 66 votes; JOHN BURT received 42 votes; JAMES
COBIS received 80 votes; SAMUEL T. COMSTOCK received 86 votes; there were 21
miscellaneous write -in votes cast,
Therefore, it is hereby declared that WAYNE BERRY, JAMES COSTS, and SAMUEL
COMSTOCK have been elected for three -year seats.
THAT for the position of Service District Advisory Board Member for
the Women's Bay Service Area for a two -year unexpired term the following
write -in votes were cast:
ED GONDEK received 15 write -in votes; JOHN BURT received 6 write -in
votes; there were 16 miscellaneous votes cast,
Therefore, it is hereby declared that ED GONDEK has been elected for a two -year
unexpired term.
THAT for the positions of Mill Bay - Island Lake- Spruce Cape Service
Area Advisory Board Members for three -year terms, the following votes were cast:
EARL A. SMITH, JR. received 239 votes; and ED VAN FLEET received 274
votes,
Therefore, EARL A SMITH, JR., and ED VAN FLEET were elected.
THAT for the positions of Mill Bay - Island Lake - Spruce Cape Service
Area Advisory Board Member for a two -year unexpired term:
TONY PEREZ received 4 write -in votes; there were 21 miscellaneous
write -in votes cast,
Therefore, it is declared that TONY PEREZ was elected.
THAT for the position of Fire Protection Area Number One Advisory
Board Members for three -year terms, the following votes were cast:
HORACE SIMMONS received 597 votes, BILL SWEARINGIN received 7
write -in votes, and 14 miscellaneous write -in votes were cast,
Therefore, it is declared that HORACE SIMMONS and BILL SWEARINGIN
have been elected for three -year terms.
THAT for the positions of Monashka Bay Road Service District Advisory
Board Members for a three -year term the following write -in votes were cast:
WILLIAM ELSBERRY received 3 write -in votes and DAN OGG received 5
write -in votes; and 30 other miscellaneous write -in votes were cast,
Therefore, it is declared that WILLIAM ELSBERRY and DAN OGG were elected.
THAT for the position of Monashka Bay Road Service District Advisory
Board Member for a one -year unexpired term: 19 miscellaneous write -in votes werl
cast,
Therefore, it is declared VACANT.
THAT Proposition No. 1 (Mill Bay - Island Lake - Spruce Cape Service
Area) on the question of altering the boundaries by addition, received 13 YES
votes and 5 NO votes, Therefore, the boundaries of the Mill Bay - Island
(Lake- Spruce Cape Service Area (Service District No. 1) shall be altered
accordingly.
THAT Proposition No. 1 (Monashka Bay Road Service Area) on the
question of altering the boundaries by addition, received 16 YES votes and 34 NO
votes, Therefore, the boundaries of the Monashka Bay Road Service Area shall
remain the same.
THAT Proposition No. 1 (Fire Protection Area Number One) on the
question of altering the boundaries by addition, received 5 YES votes and 0 NO
votes, Therefore the boundaries of the Fire Protection Area Number One shall be
altered accordingly.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly this llth day of
October, 1985.
