A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH REQUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO FUND 100% STUDENT
TRANSPORTATION, MINI 874 PROGRAM, COMMUNITY SCHOOLS AND DEBT
RETIREMENT FOR SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION AND URGING FULL FUNDING FRO
STATE SOURCES FOR HOUSING AND CARE OF STUDENTS WHO MUST LIVE
AWAY FROM HOME TO ATTEND SCHOOL.
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the State is very
specific in its requirement that education is the responsibili
of the State, and
WHEREAS, under the Boroughs Act School Districts wer
formed in each Borough to provide for educational programs in
each borough, and
WHEREAS, some Boroughs in the state are composed of
such physical makeup to create problems in getting the student
to and from school, and
WHEREAS, Legislation was passed last year allowing t
Department of Education to enter into agreements with the school
districts to share costs in providing domestic care sources -
housing and care for students who must live away from home to
attend high school, and
WHEREAS, some school districts have developed altern•;te
approaches to the boarding home approach,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Assembly of
the Kodiak Island Borough supports the concept of utilizing th
approved annual plan of service approach to domestic care sery
and urges full funding from state sources to implement the app
ed plan and urges funding of 100% for student transportation a
debt service retirement.
