A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH REQUESTING EXTENSION OF THE ANTON LARSEN BAY ROAD
TO ICE FREE WATER
WHEREAS, the City of Kodiak is recognized and
designated as the cultural, social and economic center of
the Kodiak Island Borough and the areas westward thereof, an.
WHEREAS, the citizens of Ouzinkie and Port Lions,
Port Bailey and residents of Afognak Island depend on the
services and facilities of the City of Kodiak for the basic
necessities of life, and
WHEREAS, during the winter months and throughout the
year the trip by boat from these villages lying on the north
side of Kodiak Island is hazardous, expensive and unfeasible
for varying periods of time, and
WHEREAS, the extension of this road to ice free water
has been a high priority for the community for several years,
such priority having been established in the updating of the
Overall Economic Development Plan, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Highways has also listed
this extension in their five -year plan,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly go on record as strongly urging that this
Five -Year Plan be implemented, that the Division of Highways
extend the Anton Larsen Bay Road to ice free waters and maintain
this on a year -round basis. The Assembly further urges that
the funds be designated for this construction within the next
construction period and construct this much needed link of
communication that has been in the planning stages for the la
five years.
