1989-73 Ratifying and Confirming the Results of the Regular Election Held October 3, 1989.By: Drafted by: Introduced: Adopted: KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 89 -73 -R Borough Assembly Borough Clerk 10/19/89 10/19/89 A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING THE RESULTS OF THE REGULAR ELECTION HELD OCTOBER 3, 1989 WHEREAS, pursuant to law, the Kodiak Island Borough held a Regular Election on October 3, 1989, at which time candidates for the follow- ing offices to be filled were voted on: Borough Mayor (1) 3 -year term Borough Assembly (2) 3 -year terms School Board (1) 3 -year term Service District 01 Advisory Board (2) 3 -year terms Advisory Board (1) 2 -year term Fire District 01 Advisory Board (1) 3 -year term Monashka Bay Service District Advisory Board (2) 3 -year terms Womens Bay Service District Advisory Board (2) 3 -year terms Advisory Board (1) 2 -year term Bay View Service District Advisory Board (2) 3 -year terms Advisory Board (2) 2 -year terms and the following questions: Proposition No. 1 "Shall Resolution No. 1 -89 -01 be enacted ?" and: Proposition No. 2 "Shall Ordinance No. 89 -23 -0 prohibiting the Borough Mayor and Assembly Members from serving more than two (2) consecutive elected terms be enacted ?" Assembly: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough THAT the Assembly finds and hereby ratifies and declares the results of the Regular Election held within the Kodiak Island Borough on Tuesday, October 3, 1989, to be as follows: THAT for the position of Borough Mayor for a three -year term, the following votes were cast: JEROME M. SELBY received 1614 votes; JAMES L. FISK received 378 votes; and there were 34 miscellaneous write -In votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that JEROME M. SELBY has been elected for a three -year term. Resolution No. 89 -73 -R Page 1 of 3 THAT for the position of Borough Assembly for three -year terms, the following votes were cast: GARY STEVENS received 1116 votes; MARY A. MONROE received 1042 votes; WAYNE A. STEVENS received 886 votes; and KEN GREGG received 747 votes; and there were 28 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that GARY STEVENS and MARY A. MONROE have been elected for three -year seats. THAT for the position of School Board Member for a three -year term the following votes were cast: CHERYL McNEIL received 1543 votes; and EDWARD CROWLEY- WILSON received 498 votes; and, there were 15 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that CHERYL McNEIL has been elected for a three -year seat. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Members for the Bayview Road Service Area for two three -year terms the following votes were cast: There were 9 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that the two three -year seats are vacant. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Members for the Bayview Road Service Area for two two -year terms the following votes were cast: There were 5 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that the two two -year seats are vacant. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Members for the Monashka Bay Service Area for three -year terms the following votes were cast: DON FOX received 4 write -in votes; JOEL WATTUM received 3 write -In votes; and, there were 42 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that DON FOX and JOEL WATTUM have been elected for three -year seats. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Womens Bay Service Area for three -year terms the following votes were cast: ANDY EDGERLY received 3 votes; and, there were 60 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that ANDY EDGERLY has been elected for a three -year seat and one three -year seat is declared vacant. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Womens Bay Service Area for a two -year term the following votes were cast: There were 33 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that the two -year seat is vacant. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Fire Protection District No. 1 for a three -year term the following votes were cast: VERN BERNS received 5 votes; ANDREW NAULT received 4 write -in votes; and, there were 73 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that VERN BERNS has been elected for a three -year seat. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Service District No. 1 for three -year terms the following votes were cast: SCOTT ARNDT received 269 votes; JAMES FISK received 192 votes; and, there was 24 miscellaneous write -in vote cast, THEREFORE, it Is declared that SCOTT ARNDT and JAMES FISK have been elected for three -year seats. Resolution No. 89 -73 -R Page 2 of 3 THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Service District No. 1 for a two -year term the following votes were cast: There were 24 miscellaneous write -in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that the two -year seat is vacant. THAT Proposition No. 1 on the question of enacting Initiative Resolution No. 1- 89 -01, setting policy that the borough would not pursuing Navy Homeporting, received 993 YES votes and 1183 NO votes, THEREFORE, Resolution No. 1 -89 -01 is defeated. THAT Proposition No. 2 on the question enacting Ordinance No. 89 -23 -0, which would prohibit the Borough Mayor and Assembly Members from serving more than two consecutive elected terms, received 966 YES votes and 1159 NO votes, THEREFORE, Ordinance No. 89 -23 -0 is defeated.
