1989-65 Requesting that the U.S.C.G Provide for Marine Enforcement and Search and Rescue in United States Waters off the Alaskan Coast.A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD
PROVIDE FOR MARINE ENFORCEMENT AND SEARCH AND RESCUE
IN U.S. WATERS OFF THE ALASKAN COAST
WHEREAS, the largest fishing fleets in the United States are located
in Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the Bristol Bay, Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska are
navigable waters under the jurisdiction of the U. S. Coast Guard; and
WHEREAS, the enforcement of maritime laws can only occur through
the active participation of the U. S. Coast Guard; and
WHEREAS, numerous accidents and deaths have occured in Alaska
and will continue without proper marine law enforcement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Assembly of the
Kodiak Island Borough urges and requests the U. S. Coast Guard to assign
the appropriate detachment(s) to meet the marine law enforcement and search
and rescue needs of coastal Alaska.
