1989-48 Supporting the Emergency Services Council's Request to Exxon to Fund an Independent Lab in Kodiak.By: Introduced: Adopted: KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 89 -48 -R Jack McFarland 7/06/89 7/06/89 A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING THE EMERGENCY SERVICES COUNCIL'S REQUEST TO EXXON TO FUND AN INDEPENDENT LAB IN KODIAK WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough believes in a non- biased analysis of oiled samples, and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough believes that Exxon wishes to pursue additional sample collection and faster turn around time for all lab work, and WHEREAS, a local independent lab could provide the quality examination of hydrocarbons present in our local waters, and WHEREAS, any informtion provided especially to our subsistance and commercial fishermen in regards to high levels of hydrocarbons can be done so in a timely manner to address health issues, and WHEREAS, in addition to sampling oil for finger printing and toxicity, lab should be available to test tissue samples of local seafood (e.g. mussels, clams, salmon, etc.); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly supports Exxon funding an independent lab in Kodiak to analyze oil samples collected locally and samples of fish harvested during this summer. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution will be sent to Exxon Oil Company, Alaska Governor Steve Cowper, Alaska Dept. of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Dennis Kelso, Senators Ted Stevens and Frank Murkowski, Congressman Don Young, Senator Fred Zharoff, Representative Cliff Davidson, NOAA, and the Kodiak Emergency Services Council.
