Ensure that the Cleanup Effort Continues Until the Beaches are Clean.A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD INSURE THAT THE CLEAN UP EFFORT CONTINUES UNTIL THE BEACHES ARE CLEAN WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Exxon oil spill, and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island to be monumental in scope, and WHEREAS, all available and in the clean up, and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island all beaches to be unacceptable, and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island to have long lasting negative effects recreational and tourism use, and ! . ATTEST: By: Introduced: Adopted: KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 89 -47 -R Jack McFarland 7/06/89 7/06/89 Borough is an innocent party to the IItorough considers the Exxon oil spill qualified individuals should participate Borough considers the oil deposited on Borough considers the Exxon oil spill on fisheries, marketing, subsistence, WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough understands that the federal jurisdiction for ensuring the people of Kodiak Island Borough are protected lies with enforcement by the United States Coast Guard, and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough finds Exxon the responsible party for the Exxon oil spill; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough depends upon the US Coast Guard to ensure that a quality clean up on all ' Kodiak Island Borough beaches be accomplished and that it is deemed unacceptable unless all parties authorized to reach that decision have done so in accordance with any and all state and borough requirements no matter how long it takes. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution will be sent to Exxon Oil Company, the United States Coast Guard, Alaska Governor Steve Cowper, Alaska Dept. of Eviornmental Conservation Commissioner Dennis Kelso, Shoreline Community Council, the "Oiled" Mayors, Senators Ted Stevens and Frank Murkowski, Congressman Don Young, Senator Fred Zharoff, Representative Cliff Davidson and NOAA.
