RESOLUTION NO. 89 -46 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
CONCERNING THE FUTURE PROGRAMS NECESSARY TO BE IN PLACE
BY EXXON PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 1990
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough understands that this is the
largest oil spill in the United States of America, and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough understands that the oil spill
occured in a complex area with complex concerns, and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough wishes to protect its Islands'
future from the Exxon oil spill, and
WHEREAS, programs that will ensure protection are those such as:
beach cleanup, seafood marketing, salmon fertilization, halibut and king crab
studies, wildlife studies, timely and equitable settlements for subsistance,
occupational and commercial claims and an agenda to the people of Alaska and
Island Borough for future interaction on these subjects:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak
Kodiak
Borough Assembly will seek to ensure that the Kodiak Island Borough future
is protected beyond January 1, 1990, from the effects of the Exxon oil spill.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution shall be
sent to Alaska Governor Steve Cowper, Senators Ted Stevens and Frank
" Murkowski, Congressman Don Young, Exxon Oil Company, Senator Fred
Zharoff, Representative Cliff Davidson and NOAA.
PASSED AND APPROVED THIS 6TH DAY OF JULY, 1989.
