RESOLUTION NO. 89 -01 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
REQUESTING PLACEMENT OF A FULL TIME ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF
FISH AND GAME HABITAT BIOLOGIST IN KODIAK
WHEREAS, there are many projects on Kodiak Island that require
investigation and review by a habitat biologist, and
WHEREAS, any development on Kodiak Island should be studied for
possible impact on the fish streams and wildlife, and
WHEREAS, the nearest State of Alaska habitat biologist is now
located in Anchorage which makes travel quite expensive to study Kodiak
'Island projects, and
WHEREAS, there are now a number of mining claims being filed
! which will require a considerable amount of time for adequate review by a
habitat biologist, and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Maritime and Wildlife Refuge will be in the
i review and decision making process for the next two years and review by a
habitat biologist would be critical, and
WHEREAS, other activities such as timber sales and other
development are increasing and full time habitat work is needed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly that the Alaska Legislature is requested to appropriate the
necessary funds and authorize a habitat biologist position in Kodiak, new or
transfer, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game is requested to place
this position in Kodiak to address habitat concerns.
