A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH WITHDRAWING FROM THE U. S.
GOVERNMENT'S SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, participation in the Social Security program by the Kodiak
Island Borough employees and classified Kodiak Island School District employees
is voluntary, and
WHEREAS, the Borough and classified School District employees are
by the Public Employees Retirement System, (PERS) State of Alaska, and
WHEREAS, the Borough's contribution to both FICA and PERS places a '..
financial hardship on the Borough's budget and local taxpayers, and
WHEREAS, employees of both the Kodiak Island Borough as well as the
classified employees of the Kodiak Island Borough School District have by a I
substantial majority indicated their desire to withdraw from the U. S. Government
Social Security Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
hereby indicates that it is in the public interest to withdraw from the Social
Security program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Borough Manager and Borough Attorney
are authorized and directed to file a Notice of Termination of Participation
by Borough employees from the U. S. Social Security Program.
PASSED AND APPROVED this 9th day of November , 1981 by
the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly.
