A RESOLUTION REQUESTING A FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY AND EXPRESSING
INTENT OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH TO COOPERATE WITH THE FEDERAL
INSURANCE ADMINISTRATION, DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT
IN GUARANTEEING FLOOD INSURANNCE WITHIN THE CITY.
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough is located in an area of tsuaami
action, and;
WHEREAS, portions of the Kodiak Island Borough are located in
areas of potential flooding from stored water, and;
WHEREAS, the need for flood insurance is of utmost importance
to the residents and property owners of this community, and;
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has indicated its capacity for
completing a flood insurance study for the Department of Housing and
Urban Development in the Kodiak Island Borough, and;
WHEREAS, it is necessary that the Borough comply with criteria as
specified in Federal Register Vol. 34, No. 39 dated 27 February, 1969.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Borough Assembly of the
Kodiak Island Borough that
1. The department of Housing and Urban Development be
requested to obtain the flood insurance study from
the Corps of Engineers, and;
2. It is the intention of the Borough to cooperate with
the Insurance Administrator, Dept. of Housing and Urban
Deve7gapent by giving assurance that appropriate land
use control measures will be adopted in a timely manner
after completion of the report and recommendations.
