1969-27 Requesting Pilot Program For Satellite TV.BOROUGH:
KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
RESOLUTION NUMBER 69 -27 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOROUGH ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
WHEREAS, Kodiak is located on an offshore island and, like
much of Alaska, sees the great potential from satellites to bring full
use of communications to this community and to this State, and
WHEREAS, satellite communications appear to be the sole
method available which could link the entire state within the foreseeable
future, and
WHEREAS, a Pilot Program for Alaska has been outlined in the
United States Seante and to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
by Senator Mike Gravel, on July 9, 1969, and
WHEREAS, Kodiak desire to participate in this Pilot Program
and to help Alaska, by this experiment to plan for an eventual permanent
structure to generalize communications in Alaska by satellite in addition
to traditional methods.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT,
Dr. Thomas Paine, Administrator, National Aeronautics and Space
Administration, is requested to approve NASA's participation in the
Pilot Program outlined by Senator Gravel on July 9, 1969, and
The Federal Communications Commission is requested to cooperate
with participating agencies and approve this experiment.
The National and State governments recognize the importance of
this proposal and lend any and all assistance to see that an experimental
program is approved for the 1969 -70 school year.
