1979-05-15 Regular MeetingKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH BOARD OF EQUALIZATION - May 15, 1979 I CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jack Mann at 6:25 P.M. in the Borough Chambers. II ROLL CALL Present Absent III APPEALS Mr. Mann read the order of appeal. Appeal No. 1 was deferred to the last item on the agenda. SUBMITTED: Mr. Jack Mann Mr. Alan Beardsley Mr. Reed Oswalt Mr. Larry Shorb Mr. Ernie Thompson A quorum was established. Mr. Okey Chandler (excused) Appeal No. 2: Mr. Ed Saunders, Lot 1, Block 5, Aleutian Subdivision. Mr. Saunders presented his reasons for appeal. Mr. Mike Renfro, Appraisal Company of Alaska, stated that all corner lots in Aleutian homes are more valuable. Mr. Saunders gave his rebuttal. Mr. Shorb moved to accept the value as appraised. Seconded by Mr. Oswalt. Motion carried unanimously. Appeal No. 3: Island Professional Building, Art Johnson, Lots 1, 2 and 3, Block 12, New Kodiak Subdivision. Mr. Johnson stated his reason for appeal. Mr. Steve Mac Swain, Appraisal Company of Alaska, explained that appraisals were made based on market value and is a realistic assessment. Mr. Beardsley moved to accept the value as appraised. Seconded by Mr. Shorb. Motion carried unanimously. Appeal No 4: Elks Club, Lot 1, Block 10, New Kodiak Subdivision. Mr. MacSwain explained this had been settled prior to the meeting. Appeal No. 1: Mr. Glenn Mathes, Lot 17, Block 7, Bells Flats Subdivision. Mr. Mathes presented his reasons for appeal. Mr. Renfro explained the basis for the appraisal. Discussion from the committee. Mr. Shorb moved to accept the assessed valuation. Seconded by Mr. Beardsley. Motion carried 3 -2; Mr. Beardsley, Mr. Shorb and Mr. Thompson voted YES with Mr. Mann and Mr. Oswalt casting NO votes. IV ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned by Chairman Mann at 8:55 P.M.
