1966-05-11 Regular Meeting ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH BOARD OF EQUALIZATION r7AY ii, 1966 I CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Presiding Officer Russell Wright on May 11, 1966, at 8:05 p.m. in the Magistrate's Court, Kodiak, Alaska. c II ROLL CALL Absent Sven Haakansen Also Present: Borough Chairman Wilton White; Assessor John Coley Clerk Wally Sienese; and 14 people in the audience. III READING OF MINUTES Minutes of B.O.E. proceedings of May 10, 1966, were read and approved as corrected to show in Case No. 1 that motion was made by Mr. Lester and pot Mr. Brechan. IV CASES FOR CONSIDERATION BY BOARD Gase No. 10 Kenneth Brandenburg - East Addition, Block 55, Lot 10 A discussion followed the presentation by appellant. Mrs. Hajdu moved that the building assesemect be dropped to $28,000 and the land to $5600. After a short discussion, motion carried by roll call vote as follows: C For Lester Hajdu Brechan Present Russell Wright Eldon Lester Mrs. Jo Hajdu Fred Brechan Against Wright Case No. 11 Robert Reynolds - East Addition Block 53, Lots 2 and 3 After a discussion with Mr. Reynolds taking part, Mr. Brechan moved that the assessments be reduced to $3000 per lot. Seconded by Mr. Lester and carried by unanimous roll call vote. Case No. 13 Robert Reynolds - East Addition, Block 40, Lot 7 Appellant presented letter concerning loss of access to his property. After discussion, Mr. Lester moved to approve the Assessor's value. Seconded by Mr. Brechan, and carried by unanimous roll call vote. Case No. 12 William Ross - East Addition, Block 51, Lots 5 and 6 Mrs. Ross represented Mr. Ross. After discussion, Mr. Brechan moved that the assessments be reduced to $2000 per lot, and assessments on all adjoining lots in the same vicinity be reduced by the same percentage. Seconded by Mr. Lester and carried by unanimous roll call vote. Case No,~15 William Ross - Leite Addition, Block 2, Lot 10 After a discussion with Mrs. Ross taking part, Mrs. Hajdu moved that the assessment on the lot be reduced to the value of the adjoining lot, $3150, since that lot has similar circumstances, and that the building values remain as originally assessed. Seconded by Mr. Brechan and carried by unanimous roll call vote. r r ~~~~ ~ ~1-~~~ -~z u B.O.E. - May 11, 1966 2 Case No. 14 James Garoutte - Block 2, Lots 2i and 22, Allman Addition L After presentation by appellant .and general discussion, Mr. Brechan moved that the assessments be reduced to $2500 per lot. Seconded by Mr. Lester. After further discussion, motion was amended to include that all of Block 1 and Block 2 be reduced in value proportionately. Amendment approved by Mr. Lester, and motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Meeting recessed at 10:20 p.m. and reconvened at 10'30 p.m. Case No. 16 Gene Tenny - Block 4, Lot 3, Airpark Subdivision Discussion followed appellant's presentation, and Mr. Lester moved to let the Assessor's appraisal stand. Seconded by Mrs. Hajdu and carried by roll call vote as followsr For Against Wright Brechan Lester Hajdu Case No. 17 Anthony Perez - USS 3100, Lot 7 Appellant, who was not present, was represented by the Assessor, who presented both sides of the case. Discussion followed and Mrs. Hajdu moved to let the Assessor's value stand. Seconded by Mr. Brechan and carried by unanimous roll call vote. Case No. 18 Rudy Lorenson - USS 3100, Lot 11 Appellant presented case and discussion followed. Mr. Lester moved to reduce the assessment to $8775. Seconded by Mrs. Hajdu and carried by unanimous roll call vote. Case No. 19, tdilliam Thonssen - East Addition, Block 44, Lots 6, 7 and 8 20, 21 Particulars of situation (house on 3 lots) presented by appellant and Assessor, and discussion followed. Mrs. Hajdu moved to let the Assessor's valuation stand. Seconded by Mr. Lester and carried by unanimous roll call vote. V ADJOURNMENT There being no further cases on the agenda scheduled for the session, the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 p.m. to reconvene on May 13 at 8:00 p.m., same location. W.A.S. _?
