The regular meeting of the Fire Protection Area #1 Advisory Board was called to order at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 6 1983. The Board received a report from Andy Brumbaugh on the status of completion of the communications systems for both Bayside Station and Women`s Bay Station. There are problems with obtaining the encoder to activate the pagers - Mr. Brum- baugh believes it will be delivered in six weeks. Bayside Station's base station is installed, tower is in place, mobile units are installed. Direction was given to Phil Shealy to investigate the possibility of exchanging the NEC brand pagers for the Motorola monitors. A first draft for the fire service contract between the Kodiak Island Borough Fire Protection Area #1 and the City of Kodiak was presented by Chief Smith. Changes noted: paragraph one, page three, change City to City of Kodiak, insert the dollar figure of $40,000 per year in blank. Cover letter attached explains subsequent action needed concerning the contract. A policy for use of the fire station by community groups was presented. Remarks from Nancy Missal, Monashka Bay resident were heard. Motion was made by Horace Simmons to adopt the policy and user agreement as presented with changes as shown on the copy attached hereto. Seconded by Barbara Swearingen. Motion carried. Chief Smith presented his report on fire activity and Station matters. A copy of which is attached. A request by Vince Reyes of the Women`s Bay Fire Board is under consideration. They wish to have Chief Smith conduct regular training sessions for their area. It was decided to advertise regular meetings, held every first Tuesday after the first Monday of each month, in the calendar of the daily newspaper. A public hearing must be advertised to present the next year's budget to the public. Positive comments concerning Chief Smith in his role as Station head were made by Phil Shealy, Borough Manager.
