The regular meeting of the Fire Protection Area #1 Advisory
Board was called to order at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 6
1983.
The Board received a report from Andy Brumbaugh on the
status of completion of the communications systems for both
Bayside Station and Women`s Bay Station. There are problems
with obtaining the encoder to activate the pagers - Mr. Brum-
baugh believes it will be delivered in six weeks. Bayside
Station's base station is installed, tower is in place, mobile
units are installed. Direction was given to Phil Shealy to
investigate the possibility of exchanging the NEC brand
pagers for the Motorola monitors.
A first draft for the fire service contract between the
Kodiak Island Borough Fire Protection Area #1 and the City of
Kodiak was presented by Chief Smith. Changes noted: paragraph
one, page three, change City to City of Kodiak, insert the
dollar figure of $40,000 per year in blank. Cover letter
attached explains subsequent action needed concerning the
contract.
A policy for use of the fire station by community groups
was presented. Remarks from Nancy Missal, Monashka Bay
resident were heard. Motion was made by Horace Simmons to
adopt the policy and user agreement as presented with changes
as shown on the copy attached hereto. Seconded by Barbara
Swearingen. Motion carried.
Chief Smith presented his report on fire activity and
Station matters. A copy of which is attached.
A request by Vince Reyes of the Women`s Bay Fire Board
is under consideration. They wish to have Chief Smith
conduct regular training sessions for their area.
It was decided to advertise regular meetings, held
every first Tuesday after the first Monday of each month, in
the calendar of the daily newspaper. A public hearing must
be advertised to present the next year's budget to the public.
Positive comments concerning Chief Smith in his role as
Station head were made by Phil Shealy, Borough Manager.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:45 p.m.
