MINUTES OF MEETING
FIRE PROTECTION AREA d#1 ADVISORY BOARD
Present were: Norm Wooten, Barbara Swearingen, Carolyn
Brisco; visitors Bill Weaver, Horace Simmons, Art Smith;
Chief Earl Smith.
Meeting was called to order at 700 p.m. Tuesday, October
4, 1983.
Board members were informed that Susan Klemzak would
be gone from Kodiak for the winter and planned to resign.
We should find an interested person willing to serve out
her year term.
The pick-up truck is in at Berg Motors and needs to be
painted and have the light bar installed. Perhaps a week
and a half until delivery to the Bayside Station. Carolyn
Brisco will confirm regulations concerning type and place-
ment of emergency lights.
Discussion was held concerning the necessity of emergerry
response lights for volunteer vehicles. Tabled until later
date.
Chief Smith presented his findings on the purchase of
insurance - building, fire engine, pick-up. workmen's
compensation. Exact figures are on file. It was decided
to carry 15 volunteer fire fighters on workmen's comp.
The Board wishes to have Leo Bourbeau of Sweeny's Insurance
address us concerning insurance matters at A.future meet-
ing. Sweeny,insurance;.evidgntly handles.:Borough insurance.
Discussion was held concerning the Advisory Board's
request for funding for a larger gallonage pumper/tanker
truck for the Fire Protection Area ##1. Chief Smith will
make a presentation outlining our position.
Chief Smith gave a report on his trip to the Alaska Fize
Chief's Conference in Fairbanks.
It was unanimous to hold at least one regular meeting
of the Advisory Board on the first Tuesday of each month.
Discussion was held concerning Borough ownership of
furnishings and equipment of Bayside Fire Station. It
was decided to get prices for decals with the Bayside logo
for the vehicles (official) belonging to Fire Protection
Area ##1.
