1982-12-21 Regular MeetingParks and Recreation Committee Minutes December 21, 1982 The Parks and Recreation Committee met in the Borough Conference Room on December 21, 1982. The meeting was called to order at 7:25 p.m. by Chairman Craig Johnson. Those present in addition to the chairman were Dottie Holm, Barbara Popken, Stephanie Dochtermann, Pat Szabo, Tom Wischer, Dave Waldron and Val Flinders. The minutes of the Committee's December 6 meeting were approved as submitted. The chairman reported that the Jaycees' project for a shoreside park off Spruce Cape Road is still in progress. The area will contain playground equipment, picnic tables and space for a limited amount of parking. Committee members expressed interest in talking with Bill Hodgins of the Jaycees to determine the estimated completion date for the park. Dave Waldron described the playground and ball field to be constructed by the Borough at East Elementary School. The Committee discussed the following potential Borough park sites: 1. Mill Bay - This site would tie in with the State's proposed jogging/cycling trail, Fort Abercrombie State Park and a possible hiking trail along the proposed sewer line following Island Lake Creek. The site would require landscaping and construction of a parking area and could include a playground and picnic area. 2. Mini -playground areas in Bell's Flats. 3. Mini -playground on one -acre site near the sewage treatment plant, unless this would prove to be a duplication of the Jaycees' project. The Committee decided to tour possible sites for park development. The tour was scheduled for January 4 at 12:10 p.m., leaving from the Borough Conference Room. The chairman asked that a Borough employee familiar with the sites accompany the Committee. The chairman appointed Barbara Popken and Stephanie Dochtermann as a subcommittee to evaluate playground equipment for park projects. The chairman also appointed Dottie Holm, Barbara Popken and Pat Szabo as a subcommittee to develop recommendations for Committee goals and objectives. The subcommittee was instructed to provide their recom- mendations by the next regular meeting. The Committee agreed that the next meeting would be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 10, in the Borough Conference Room. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, 1 ej__4 V. Pat SzaW Secretary Parks and Recreation Committee
