1975-04-15 Regular MeetingBicentennial Committee Meetinj 5 April 15,, 1975 I CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 3:20 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Borough Office Building. II PRESENT: Hal Lincoln Allen Taylor Margaret Childs Representatives from Senior Citizens - Carl Huer, Katherine Chichenoff, Maurice Paige, and Francis Coles. Lucy McIver was also present from the Historical Society. The committee decided that a medallion contest representing the Bicentennial Year would be done and the Senior Citizens were asked to organize the contest for the Kodiak Island Borough. Possible deadline for this contest would be July 4, 1975. It was decided that the committee would send for the Anchorage rules for consideration and possible use. The Senior Citizens will consider this proposal at their next meeting and will let the Bicentennial Committee know of their results. Mr. Lincoln suggested that the Senior Citizens might want to develop their own also. Suggested projects were an historical quilt and/or above ground archeology. The committee wanted to know the status of the "meeting house"? Federal funds for meeting house are dormant. Mrs. McIver reported that the City has allocated $18,500 to match Parks and Recreation grant to make structural repairs on the Museum. Next problem is availing ourselves of remaining three lots around Baranof House (appraised at $67,000) Kodiak must come up with like amount for development of the area. It was noted that Ed Naughton is working on the Legislature for $15,000 for fire- proofing the Museum. Mr. Lincoln suggested cooperating with the Russian Church, which wants Archives as depository for historic papers now in Washington Archives, Library Congress and make application to Legislature asking them to fulfill their committment when they named Kodiak the "meeting house" City. Mr. Lincoln suggested a meeting with Father Kreta and Russian Church Archives Committee, Historical Society and the City of Kodiak and Kodiak Island Borough, to decide the problem.
