DATA PROCESSING STEERING COMMITTEE
May 2, 1985
Chairman, Jerome Selby, called the Computer Steering Committee to order on Thursday,
May 2, 1985, at 11:05 a.m. The following persons were in attendance:
PRESENT
Jerome Selby
Dave Wakefield
Perry Page
Mary Jo Simmons
OTHERS PRESENT
Marolyn Pederson
Donna Coleman
ABSENT
Joyce Healey
Perry moved to recommend the agenda be accepted, motion seconded. Jerome motioned
to hold the reading of the previous meetings minutes until next month, and proceed
with the items on the agenda. Mary Jo seconded the motion.
Software conversion update:
Perry said the new software is user friendly; however, it has lack of good documenta-
tion. He is going to review the contract between the Borough and EMA to see if
telephone calls to EMA are included in the contract agreement. Perry will meet with
Joyce about finishing this years work and go on to the new software beginning next
fiscal year. The high school student administration data input is almost completed.
The junior high will be entering their student information via a modem. Once the
construction of the auditorium is completed, they will be placed on line.
Marolyn said a new computer has been purchased for the high school attendance office.
Mary Jo mentioned that documentation should be done reflecting the man hours it has
saved due to the new software. Marolyn agreed. It was noted though, that it will
be hard to do such documentation when there isn't any old data to compare with.
Possibility of meeting more frequently at staff level:
Last week Marolyn, Bob Ellison, and Perry met together and discussed a need for better
communications between the users and the data processing department. It has been
agreed upon that a meeting between the data processing and user department heads will
be held once or twice a month to discuss user problems or needs.
Disk storage capacity.
The data processing department has removed twenty percent of information from the disk
to accommodate the new J & K software. Jerome mentioned there may be a need to pull
additional information off the disk and place it on tape, then restore it back to the
system on a regular schedule. We would need to have a management plan drawn up to
schedule computer time for department users. Perry, Joyce, Marolyn, Bryce, Noreen, and
Jerome should work up this management plan.
