1984-10-04 Regular MeetingKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH DATA PROCESSING STEERING COMMITTEE October 4, 1984 Chairman, Jerome Selby, called the Computer Steering Committee to order on Thursday, October 4, 1984, at 10:15 a.m. The following persons were in attendance: PRESENT Jerome Selby Mary Jo Simmons Joyce Healey ABSENT Dave Wakefield OTHERS PRESENT Noreen Thompson Marolyn Pedersen Bryce Weeks Roy Deebel Perry Page Margaret Jamison Bob Ellison Bryce motioned that the agenda be accepted and was seconded by Joyce. Bryce then motioned that the minutes of the September 6, 1984, meeting be accepted and was seconded by Joyce. Perry then reported on the status of the conversion. He had a handout attached to the previous minutes for everyone to see. It seems as if everything is going according to schedule. The School District's payroll is running on the System/38 without running parallel to the System/34. The Borough Finance system is running parallel on both systems. It was discussed that hopefully the UPS will arrive and be installed before Terror Lake is brought on line in the next month. Joyce then handed out a copy of an addition she would like to add to the RFP. It was called Norm Referenced/Criteria Referenced Testing. She would like to go ahead and find some vendors who deal with IBM software and could support the RFP as soon as possible. Roy Deebel from the City stated that he had discussed Perry's proposal with the City Manager. One question they had was who gets first priority when it comes to installing new programs onto the System/38. He was told that the Steering Committee was responsible for deciding this. If any problems occur during the day's work, they would be taken care of at that time. Roy said the City needs to discuss the proposal more and at a later date would let the Borough know its decision. Page 2 Bob Ellison, from the Maintenance Department at the School District, then stated that he would like to purchase an IBM AT PC for his department. He has talked to Sam Lazenby, of IBM, who stated that he thought the AT would handle Bob's needs. Bob listed in a memo the applications he would like to have for the PC. This AT PC is a stand alone unit and has enough memory for Bob's needs. It was recommended to see if the AT PC would be compatible with the System/38. Bryce also recommended that a lease/purchase buy be considered instead of buying the PC outright in case the machine did not perform up to Bob's standards. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:55 a.m. The next meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, November 1, 1984, at 1:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Jerome((6- lby • _- Data Ptcessing Sterr' e
