BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION
The meeting was called to order at 11:30 A.M. at the Captain's Keg
by Allen Taylor.

A. Allen Taylor reviewed the minutes of the previous meting.
B. Heritage Museum - A letter to Standard Oil on improving the appear-
ance of the Standard Oil Tanks was sent to Mr. Ed Walker on December 3,
1975• This was discussed.
C. Town Meeting '76 - This major Bicentennial event is set for Saturday
March 6, 1976 and is sponsored by the Rotary Club. Organizational
meetings will be held each Saturday at 9 A.M. at the Captain's Keg
between now and March 6th to plan this meeting.
D. Senior Citizens - An order for medallions rendered in various
metals has been placed.
IV NEW BUSINESS
A. Bicentennial Wagon Train Pilgrimage - Mrs. Shirley Petersen des-
cribed the Wagon Train. A motion was made and passed to endorse local
participation and support. Mrs. Peterson was advised to send a letter
to each horsemen's group in the State soliciting support.
B. Flag Day - The Elks will sponsor Flag Day Activities for the Bi-
centennial on June 14th. The activities this year will be expanded
in recognition of our 200th birthday.
C. New Members - Three new members will be.recommended to the Assembly
for appointment to the Committee: Ann Barker, Susan Starr-Bresette and
Nancy Anderson.

D. Publicity - Ann Barker and Susan Starr--Bresette will expand
Bicentennial publicity efforts.
E. Air Force Band and Singing Sargents - This group will perform in
the Main School gym on Saturday evening April 24th as a special
Bicentennial function.
F. Internal Organization The following internal organization was
agreed to:

Correspondence - Lucy McIver
Group Relations Father Kreta, Chuck Evans, Gil Jarvela, Dennis Murray
Calendar - Margaret Childs
G. Land - Title to the three lots for the Heritage Museum is still not
clear and will be pursued with HUD.
H. Calendar Additions --- March 6th, Town Meeting '76, April 24th Sing-
ing Sargents, Early November Alaska State Historical Society Convention.
I. Fourth of July -- The Elks have agreed to sponsor a fireworks display
and an order will be placed shortly.
J. Projects — Solicitation of worthwhile projects for groups and in-
dividuals was discussed, for example: Oratorical contest, Above ground
archaeology, Constructing a barabera, Developing walking tour plaques
and a Photo essay contest. Publicity will be done soliciting bicenten-
nial projects for groups and individuals. Margaret Childs will arrange
for a Post Office Box (1776) for responses.
K. Regular Meetings -- Saturday lunch was considered a good meeting time
at the Captains Keg on the second Saturday of each month. The next
meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 14, at 11:30 A.M. Mayor
Robert Craig will be invited as a guest.
