III. NEW BUSINESS
A. Being that the 1976 pace will pick up the committee has to set a
more ridgid schedule for meetings. Members must be more
punctual. Committee members present felt that a Saturday morning
breakfast meeting would be in order. The breakfast meeting has been
set for Saturday, January 10, 1976, at 9:00 a.m. at the Shelikof Lodge.
This will be the meeting we hope all members will attend. Mayor
Craig has been invited to join this morning breakfast meeting.
B. Mr. Taylor mentioned the fact that replacements should be made
to fill both Mr. Lincoln's and Mrs. James positions. The committee will
also need to select a new chairman. Improvements should be in order
for the increased pace that is to be expected in 1976. Each committee
member should be responsible for a specific asspect.
C. Organization will be along functional lines, calendar, correspondence,
publicity programs, group relations as well as major projects such as
Heritage Week, the Fourth of July, ect.. .
D. The Bi-Centennial Calendar will need to be finalized
and needs as follows:
I. To revise dates for the Crab Festival that was
shifted from May to June.
2. Add Flag Day ceremonies on June 14th, 1976.
3. Spirit of 76' Womans Bowling Tournament scheduled
for March 10-14, 1976.
4. Find gut dates and themes for Rodeo and Fair. We
need to get organizational commitments to coordinate Bi-
Centennial activities for these functions, one function sponsored
by one group .
5. At the January 10, 1976 meeting we would like to have
a list of projects to accomplish during the 1976 year. Our thought
will be to assign projects to a group and have the group manage
the details of accomplishing the project under Bi -Centennial
coordinaion.
6._ Letter, noted as enclosure one, was sent to Standard
Oil in regard to the tanks at the Standard Oil Facility. The
Committee will submit an application for a $5,000.00 grant
for the Kodiak Heritage Museum. Preliminary engineering design
studies have been made. The grant will be used for capital
improvements which will be of lasting value to the community.
7. In a recent . Bi-Centennial News Letter, Mr.
John Warner, Arba Administrator, encouraged native Americans
to participate in the Bi-Centennial plans. We should encourage
participation by the Koniag and Kanland of the Borough Staff.
A letter will be sent by Mayor Craig inviting each group to
appoint a member to the Bi -Centennial Committee. The opening
of the Kana Building may be a good opportunity to relate to the
Bi -Centennial Hearitage or Horizon Theme.
8. A breakfast meeting to plan "Town Meeting" to be
sponsored by the Rotary is planned for Saturday, January 3rd, 1976.
All committee members are invited. Members from all groups will
also attend.
9. December 31, 1975, is the deadline for Bi-Centennial
grants. Committee members are requested to review possible
requirements and aduse Allen Taylor early enough before this so
applications can be processed. THINK BIC,: Fireworks,
landscaping, decorations, etc...
Lucy McIver will work on proposals for matching grants
for a Native Barabara (Native Hut) to go on Museum grounds. All
Russian structures havithese. She already has funds available for
this project and native artisans to construct.
Bristol Bay Sailing Vessel might be a display for the
New Museum. Some are still available in old canneries in Bristol
Bay -fully rigged, very little restoration is needed. Mrs. McIver
would also like to get money for a World War II exhibit for the New
Museum.
