KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH BICENTENNIAL'COMMITTEE MEETING` owrioN NOVEMBER 11, 1975 QE e, •66496© USA'76 I CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Margaret Childs, Acting Chairman. II ROLL CALL PRESENT ABSENT Margaret Childs Allen Taylor Chuck Evans Hal Lincoln Lucy McIver Fran Rhines Eunice Neseth Father Kreta III NEW BUSINESS A. Mr. Sid Urie was present to show the committee different coins to order instead of medallions. He stated that you could order the coins in a 1 and 9/16th inch size (12 gage), which would be the approximate size of a silver dollar and a lot easier to sell then the previously requested size the committee wanted. Dennis had a sample of the size the committee had wanted, which was quite large. Mr. Urie stated that the smaller size would be sought after more by collecters. He suggested putting one of the designs shown in the book, instead of making one of their own for the back of the coin. The American seal was chosen. This would save the committee money. Mrs. McIver also asked that the staff write Beatty Langes and ask about the State Bicentennial Medallions, to resell at the museum. Dennis asked the group their feeling on ordering the coins in golden bronze, nickel silver, and aluminum at a 1000 each, with 100 out of this to be set in sets of three with the silver coin. Mrs. McIver so moved to give Dennis the go ahead in ordering the coins. Seconded by Mr. Evans. Motion passed by unanimous roll call vote. Dennis stated that he will ask his Board of Directors for funds required for the advance needed in ordering the coins. B. Heritage Week - Mrs. Childs stated she had given her information to someone else on the Sitka Festival to be held here in February. Mrs. McIver stated that she thought Allen Taylor and Hal Lincoln mentioned that they would apply for a grant for Heritage Week. It was suggested that it should encompass either Lincoln's or Washington's birthday. Mrs. McIver stated that the schools could have art displays and art projects to do. Page - 2 Mrs. Childs will check to see when the festival will be here and then the committee can coordinate heritage week from there. Dennis showed the committee the logo design on tablets and on bond paper of which they will be selling at the bazaar on the 22nd. Mrs. Childs stated that she had received one letter from the Women's Bowling Association on the Bicentennial Calendar, stating when they would be holding their bowling tournament.
