IV OLD BUSINESS A. Mr. Taylor noted that there has been no response from the State Bicentennial Commission on the proposal sent to them on the Baranof Museum. B . It was noted that the State Bicentennial Commission did not approve the funding for the Larsen Bay Church application, because the Commission does not handle anything to do with churches. V NEW BUSINESS A. Mrs. McIver noted that 97 letters were sent to the businesses on the buying of tickets for the special performance of the Ram. Mr. Taylor noted that the special performance of the Ram put on for funding of the Baranof Museum went quite well. The Ram received $2,000.00 and the Baranof Museum received $1500.00. Mr. Taylor suggested that it should be known that the Baranof Museum have a special fund set up to accept money for the proposed Baranof Museum. Page-2- Mr. Taylor further noted that it should be known to the public that they plan to lay the foundation of the proposed museum by July 1, 1976, if at all possible. Mr. Jarvela noted that each month Roger Page does a feature story in his monthly newspaper and that possibly it should be checked into on doing a story on the Baranof Museum. Allen Taylor asked Mrs. McIver is the letter to HUD was sent out from the City of Kodiak. She stated that it was. She further noted that she received copies of correspondence from HUD and the letter from the City of Kodiak to them. She also said that she had contacted someone from HUD and asked him about the background on the acqusition of the property adjacent to the museum. He told her that it would take an "Act of Congress" in order to get the lots donated to the City from HUD, and that the City had to buy the lots if they wanted them. He also said that he will do some research on the background work of trying to acquire the lots and Lucy will bring them to the meeting when received. Lucy has written to Mike Gravel about this, but she feels that the Bicentennial Commission should write to the other senators and representatives for their help on this matter. Lucy also mentioned that a follow-up letter or telephone call to Don Samuelson should be done on writing to the Regional Director. Mr. Taylor stated that a letter should be drafted to send to the senators and representatives with a copy of the proposal and the correspondence on the acquisition of the property around the present museum. Father Kreta mentioned that he had heard of a scenic easement that could be granted around historical landmarks. Allen Taylor asked Father Kreta to check more into this possibility and if this can be done it should be incorporated into the letter sent to the senators. A separate letter should also be written to National Trust and Historic Preservation organization. Mrs. McIver stated that a letter should be written to the Coast Guard thanking them for their participation on helping fund the Baranof Museum and the special performance of the Ram. A letter should also be sent to Toni Eaton for her effort in selling the tickets to the businesses. Mrs. McIver stated that if HUD stated that it would take an "Act of Congress" to get the land donated to the City, then we should contact Don Young to submit a bill to congress so that this property can be donated to the City. B. Allen Taylor stated that the school should start promoting Heritage week. He further noted that the Bicentennial calendar was never published in the paper and asked Margaret Childs to check into this.
