Concern was expressed that Block R1 retain its designation as a park -because of the major high density population area surrounding Block R1 and the very limited park availability in the area: a small area on the front side of Island Lake and the unimproved Island Lake Creek trail. Additionally, it was pointed out that since the Borough does not require private developers to provide parks or green areas in their developments, available green space will diminish and the need for parks increase as the area develops. Pat Szabo moved that on the basis of the concerns discussed, the Committee strongly support the designation of'Block R1 as Borough park. The motion was carried with a vote of 5 yes, 0 no, and 1 (Ann Barker) abstaining. The chairman will attend the Planning and Zoning Commission hearing to present the committee's views.
