1983-05-11 Regular MeetingParks and Recreation Committee Minutes May 11, 1983 A special meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was held in the School District conference room on May 11. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by vice chairman Barbara Popken. Others present were Dorothy Holm, Tom Wischer, John Sevier, Pat Szabo, Dave Herrnsteen, Phil Shealy, Dave Waldron, Jody Hodgins, and Janet Cullen and Donald Moorefield of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. The State's proposed bicycle trail from East Elementary School to Fort Abercrombie was discussed. Although sufficient funding is not available to complete the trail, concensus of local representatives was that the trail be paved for that portion of the trail that can be completed. The Committee also requested that the trail be designed to provide for as much of the trail as possible to be away from the roadside. Jody Hodgins described the Jaycees' present plans for the Spruce Cape park. The chairman requested that the Jaycees provide a letter to the Borough outlining what facilities will be provided by the Jaycees and other civic groups and what facilities could be provided if Borough assistance were provided. The committee agreed that Borough staff should proceed with the Bell's. Flats parks, as presented by Ellerbe and with modifications stipulated in prior Parks and Recreation Committee meetings. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Craig lohnson Chairman KIBS329496
