1986-01-29 Regular Meetingi ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 29, 1986 The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm on January 29, 1986 in the Borough Assembly Chambers with the following members present: Wayne Coleman, Chairman, Cliff Ford, Reed Oswalt, Art Bors, Donnell Rounsaville Bill Beaty, Suzanne Hancock and John Witteveen. Also present were Ray Camardella, Bob MacFarlane, KIB and Wayne Tansil, Ron Campbell and Bruce Thoreen, Gobbell Hays/Pickering, consultants on the Asbestos Abatement project in the High School. - Donnell Rounsaville nominated Bill Beaty as chairman of the ARB, voted on and passed by unanimous vote. - Bill Beaty nominated Wayne Coleman as Vice Chairman of the ARB, voted on and passed by unanimous vote. Wayne Tansil, gave a presentation of slides depicting the nature of the upcoming Asbestos Abatement project. He explained the many similari- ties between our project and the recently completed project at Bartlet High School in Anchorage. (Both structures were designed by CCC/HOK). The Air monitoring and testing procedures were outlined. The High School Asbestos Abatement/Systems upgrade project construc- tion documents were reviewed with emphasis on life -safety codes. It was noted that a disposal site on Kodiak at the existing landfill was being developed and the coordination for disposal from the High School was a prime consideration. The domestic water galvanized pipe report was reviewed and it was determined that the piping was in very poor condition. Wayne Coleman motioned to remove and replace the galvanized piping completely, seconded by Art Bors and passed by unanimous vote. A discussion of the state certification for Asbestos worker program and emphasis for local hire occurred. Considerable discussion occurred regarding trying to keep the swimming pool operational including, heating requirements, electrical requirements and access. It was determined that it was best to keep the pool shut down until it could safely be opened for public use again. The annual maintenance would be scheduled concurrent with the shut down. The new proposed bleacher installation was discussed at length with emphasis on the need for access to under the bleachers for cleaning and equipment maintenance. The need for proper seismic bracing of light fixtures, duct work and piping was discussed. Bill Beaty noted that 4-tube fixtures were more readily available than 3 tube as specified. The Electrical consultant mentioned that we should investigate replacement of the PA system in the gymnasium. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:00 pm.
