I Call to Order
Chairman 'Hansen called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. in the Borough Office,
Donnelley Bldg., kii,o iak, Alaska.

Also present: Sally kendrix, Borough Secretary, taking minutes
III Planning and Staff Items
A. General Discussion. Borough Chairman White joined the meeting briefly to
outline the general purpose of the Commission. Le described the land that
the ;Borough will be acquiring from the State as soon as possible. A discussion
was then held on the immediate zoning problems that Kodiak now has, including
the need for more Business, R-3, and water -front Industrial areas.
It was decided that at least one member of the Commission should attend the
Assembly meetings. It was agreed that the Commission would meet on Wednesday
one week preceding each Assembly meeting.
B. of I p . A discussion was held on the need for up- dating the zoning map
and making it more readable. Or. Wailer made a motion that the Commission
request the Borough Assembly to have the zoning map re-drawn in four sections,
each one as large as the present zoning map, with the divisions to be
determined by the engineer, and that the present zoning map be up -dated in
its entirety. Seconded by Y xr . Welsh„ and carried by unanimous voice vote.
hr. Hansen suggested that the Commission members take their copies of the
zoning map and explore the area as much as possible.
C. LIERTELaaiKaiRaE. The Commission felt that the Lorough should be
concerned with the roads, water and sewer in the new subdivisions, since if
left up to individuals, they may be installed incorrectly, particularly sewer
lines.
D. Industrialterront popert� A discussion was held on the need for this

type of property. hansen described a seawall project which had been
under consideration at one time--if a seawall could be constructed from
null Island to past Gibson Cove, it would provide considerably more boat
harbor space.
E. Condemnation of Old and Burned Buildin ;, s. Mr. Brechberg suggested that a
time limit should be established for the clearing away of burner buildings.
It was determined that the Building Inspector does have the authority to
condemn buildings that do not meet building code standards, and that he can
also issue stop work orders if buildings do not meet proper construction
standards.

be some objections to re ouings , but that if progress is to be made for the
good of the community, some individual sacrifices will have to be made.
