PLANNING & ZONING aMIISSION kEETING September 25, 1968
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m, by Chairman John Waller in the
Courtroan of the New State Office Building, Kodiak, Alaska.

Also present: Sam Best, Borough Chairman, and Ben Ardinger
Mr. Waller asked if another Board member had yet been appointed and Mr. Best
stated that he will appoint another member from one of the villages.
III MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING-9-11-68
Mr. Brothers craved, seconded by Mr. welch, that the minutes be accepted as
written. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.

XI PLANNING AND STAFF ITEMS
A. Election of Chairman and Vice -Chairman
Mr. Waller called for nomination for Chairman. 14r. Haney nominated
Mr. Waller, seconded by Mr. Brothers. Mr. Waller nominated Mr. Haney.
Nominations were closed and unanimous ballot was cast for Mr. Waller.
Mr. Waller called for ncminations for Vice -Chairman. Mr. Welch naninated
Mr. Haney, seconded by Mr. Waller. Mr. Brothers crowed that the naninations
be closed.and unanimous -ballot was cast for Mr. Haney.
A. Request for Variance -East Addition,Block 43, Lot 3, Ben Ardinger-Case 208-A
Mr. Ardinger stated that when he went down to pick up a building permit
to build a garage on his property, he was told that he needed 25 feet of
clearance from his back property line. He submitted a request to Planning
and Zoning for a 5 foot variance. He also submitted a drawing and two
letters from his neighbors,P4r. Johnson and Mr...Tennison,stating that they
had no objection to his building a garage. There was also no objection
from Mr. Best. There is also a 20 foot alley in back of his house. After
careful study of the ordinance governing this matter it was found that all
that is required for a garage is 5 foot setback from the property line
as long as the building is no higher than 14 feet. Mr. Brothers made a
motion granting approval building of the garage per zoning ordinance
Section 10.E,Yards l(d), seconded by NIr. welch and carried by unanimous
roll call vote.
