REGULAR MEETING

1. CALL TO ORDER/PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chair Paul VanDyke called the regular meeting to order at 6:00 PM.
2. ROLL CALL
Board Members present were Chair Paul VanDyke, Richard Carstens, and Craig Walton. Mike
Dolph, and Aaron Griffin was absent. A quorum was established. Others in attendance were
Acting Chief Rebecca Nelson, Kodiak Island Borough Finance Director Dora Cross, and Kodiak
Island Borough Assembly Member Scott Arndt.
3. ACCEPTANCE/APPROVAL OF AGENDA
CARSTENS MOVED to approve agenda. WALTON seconded.
VOICE VOTE ON MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
CARSTENS MOVED to approve the minutes of June 8`h, 2021. WALTON seconded.

6. FIRE CHIEF'S REPORT: none.
7. CHAIR PERSON'S REPORT
Chair Van Dyke reported on a few things. First Mike Dolph asked to share that the bread truck
has been stripped of all pertinent items and is ready for decommission. They discussed the delays
that are happening with vehicle purchases country wide right now. They would also like to move
forward with decommissioning Chief Rue's Jeep.
8. NEW BUISNESS
A. LIGHTING PANEL
Chair Van Dyke presented the email from Matt Gandel about the lighting panel in the
lower bays. The lights are working correctly but the control panel is not usable at the
moment. The Board wants to make sure that they are getting the best cost for the benefit.
They would like to get a hard quote.

B. QUOTES FOR TURNOUTS, HELMETS, & BOOTS
Acting Chief Rebecca Nelson presented the quotes for MES and LN Curtis for 12 jackets,
12 pants, 24 boots, and 24 helmets. There was no decision made to move forward with
any portion of the order.
There was a long discussion about pricing, quality, and what is currently at the station.
The Board wants to make sure that all the current volunteers have gear that is up to date
and in regulation standards (safety first). This would include no more than 10 helmets
and 10 boots. Then go out for a larger request for quotes for new sets for volunteers
coming in.
9. OLD BUISNESS
A. HIRIING PROCESS FOR FIRE CHIEF
Chair Van Dyke there was a chief candidate that pulled out of the recruitment. The other
candidate is going to be here on July 18s'. He will be staying in the apartment at Bayside
and will have a rental vehicle provided by the Kodiak Island Borough.
10. VISITOR COMMENTS —
Scott Arndt — Turnout Purchase Concerns
Dora Cross — New fiscal year reminders.
11. BOARD MEMBERS COMMENTS
R. Nelson — There have been concerns raised recently about the clinic that they get their
physicals at. She will be looking for a new clinic to be able to go to for health/safety concerns.
She would also like to prefill forms for the volunteers getting physicals to make it easier.
C. Walton — None.
R. Carstens — Interesting about the clinics. I have used both and was very precise when giving
them instructions on how to bill. But billing departments still messed everything up. Maybe use
Mill Bay Clinic or Creighton's?
P. Van Dyke — Thank you call for coming and for the input provided. There has been direction
provided to Rebecca about turnouts and clinic.
12. NEXT MEETING SCHEDULE — Call of Chair.

CARSTENS MOVED to adjourn the meeting. WALTON seconded.
