A Planning and Zoning Commission Regular Meeting of the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
was held on June 16, 2021, in the Borough Assembly Chambers of the Kodiak Island Borough
Building, 710 Mill Bay Road. The meeting was called to order at 6:39 p.m.
Present were Alan Schmitt, Joseph Delgado, Paul Van Dyke, Andrew Kenneson and Matt
Novello. Absent were Sarah Harrington and Kent Cross

a. Meeting Schedule:
• Staff made a request to cancel July meetings as we are short on staff
• Work Session August 11, 2021, at 6:30 P.M.
• Regular Meeting August 18, 2021, at 6:30 P.M.
STAFF COMMENTS
• Borough Manager Powers noted that we are continuing to recruit for a community
development director and a planner. At this time Assessor Garoutte And Borough
Manager Powers will be taking care of the P&Z. Also noted that they would not be the
permanent staff persons for the P&Z.

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
• Not Recorded
• Commissioner Delgado thanked staff for the great work and is looking forward to the
hiring of the new people.
• Commissioner Kenneson had none.
• Commissioner Novello had none.
• Chair Schmitz commented that this was a learning experience for him as well. He
commended the staff on a job well done. Understands that staff has been inundated
and shows how well they (the commission) are treated by staff so that they can focus
on the decisions. Looks forward to new staff so that we can continue to move forward.
