Call to Order SOLID WASTE ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES October 7, 2019 - 5:15 PM Kodiak Fisheries Research Center NOV 2 6 2019 Chair Szabo called the regular meeting to order at 5:18 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019. Rall Call P. Valerio conducted a roll call, a quorum was established. Board members present were Chair Nick Szabo, Steven Neff, Laine Welch, and Jeff Stewart. Nathan Svoboda, Ed Mahoney, and Jason Jardine were absent. Approval of Agenda J. STEWART MOVED to approve the agenda, seconded by S. Neff. VOICE VOTE ON MOTION CARRRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Approval of Minutes S. NEFF MOVED to approve the minutes of August 121h, 2019, seconded by J. Stewart. VOICE VOTE ON MOTION CARRRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Visitor Comments: None Staff Reports: Engineering & Facilities Director David Conrad provided staff with an Accumulated Transaction Listing and a Budget Performance Report for the board's review. The board discussed and clarified what has been spent and where. Laine Welch presented her progress with the reduce, reuse, recycle campaign. Laine discussed pricing of advertising, content, and sustainability. Discussion with board followed. 1 Mike Shrewsbury presented his report for Alaska Waste. Discussion with the board followed. Discussion Items: None Visitor Comments: Dora Cross, Kodiak Island Borough Finance Manager, discussed biggest Borough traffic days (October). Dora presented an opportunity for the Board to advertise in the Foreclosure report, which will also be in the newspaper. Dora also discussed recycling of batteries. Board Member Comments: J. Stewart —there are multiple parties working on multiple different parts of this recycling campaign. He would like to see a more united effort. And would like to make sure that there is still revenue being made at the Landfill. S. Neff— brief update on Igigik Gasification Investigation. A. Schroeder — Apologies for being absent. He has been working with high-school students and other volunteers over the summer collecting Marine Debris and Ocean Plastics. They collected 37,OOOlbs. Discussion with the Board followed. L. Welch —thank you to Dave, Patricia, Meagan, and Martha for help with getting this going and continued support. Will continue to contact folks for more input. N.
