FY2019-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH AUTHORIZING THE ACQUISITION OF THE FIRE ENGINE `MISS LINDA' FROM THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANCHORAGE BY FIRE PROTECTION AREA NO. 1 WHEREAS, the "Miss Linda" is a 1993 E1 Pumper fire engine owned by the Municipality of Anchorage, Anchorage Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Captain Jason Dolph who grew up in Kodiak and now works with the Anchorage Fire Department, spearheaded an effort to dedicate a fire engine as a'cancer awareness' engine to promote cancer awareness with its attendance at local health events and travel throughout the community; and WHEREAS, this fire engine, dedicated as a 'cancer awareness' engine in August 2014, has been wrapped in pink vinyl with cancer awareness ribbons and named Miss Linda in honor of Linda Dolph, who died from breast cancer in December 2009; Linda was the mother of Jason Dolph and wife of Mike Dolph who has been a firefighter in Kodiak for many years; and WHEREAS, the fire engine Miss Linda is 25 years old and still in good condition, but the Anchorage Fire Department is retiring the engine; and WHEREAS, the Anchorage Fire Department will place the retired engine on a list serve at the price of one dollar plus the provision of an argument for why the interested party should get the engine; and WHEREAS, the Board and volunteer fire fighters of Fire Protection Area No. 1 (Bayside Fire Station) wish to place a bid on the Miss Linda to bring it to the community of the person after whom it was named, to continue its service as a cancer awareness engine participating in local events and serving as a training engine for the department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH that Fire Protection Area No. 1 is authorized to acquire the fire engine 'Miss Linda' from the Municipality of Anchorage.
