I. CALL TO ORDER: 7:05 pm
II. ROLL CALL: Present: Wilton White, Lonnie White, Ben
Ardinger, Bill Hogan, Betty Springhill, Dr. Bob Johnson, Gretchen
Saupe; absent: none. Also present, Don Wee, administrator.
III. PURPOSE OF MEETING: Personnel Matters
Chairman White asked Don Wee to update the board. Mr. Wee referred
to the listing of options members received concerning alternatives
to resolve the personnel issue. Mr. Wee also sought legal advice
and MICA's opinion, both of which stated from a risk
management/legal point of view, the situation must be evaluated.
Options were discussed. Dr. Bob gave an overview of the situation
and the majority opinion of the medical staff. An opinion shared
by three professionals who practiced here as locum tenens.
Discussion continued about options and the concerns relative to the
option of evaluation.
MOTION *1: DR. JOHNSON MOVED TO OFFER THE EMPLOYEE/CRNA EARLY
RETIREMENT; SECONDED BY LONNIE WHITE. ROLL CALL VOTE:
YES: Gretchen, Lonnie, Dr. Johnson, Ben
NO: Bill, Betty, Wilton MOTION PASSED BY MAJORITY.
Discussion continued on the options and risks thereof.
MOTION *2: GRETCHEN SAUPE MOVED IF THE EMPLOYEE/CRNA REFUSES EARLY
RETIREMENT, WE OFFER THE EVALUATION OPTION AT AN INSTITION MUTUALLY
ACCEPTABLE TO KIH & EMPLOYEE; SECONDED BY LONNIE WHITE. DISCUSSION
OF LOCATIONS FOR EVALUATION. ROLL CALL VOTE:
YES: Gretchen, Lonnie, Dr. Johnson, Ben, Bill, Betty, Wilton.
MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
Discussion of hospital position.
MOTION *3: GRETCHEN MOVED TO HAVE CHIEF OF STAFF DR. JOHNSON
REQUEST LETTERS FROM ALL PROFESSIONALS ADDRESSING ANY PROBLEMS THAT
THEY HAD WITH THE EMPLOYEE/CRNA. SECONDED BY BEN ARDINGER.
DISCUSSION ON MOTION. ROLL CALL VOTE:
YES: Grethen, Lonnie, Ben, Bill, Betty, Wilton.
NO: Dr. Johnson. MOTION PASSED BY MAJORITY.
Chairman introduced next personnel topic concerning one physician
and the limitation placed on that physician Rr•jto assi.F:ting in
surgery. Members recommended to Chief of Staff to talk to the
those involved again.

Discussion on surgeon absences; recruitment al -so discussed as
difficult and costly. Discussion on communication and its affects
on employees, physicians, public. Dr. Johnson stated strongly that
KIH is making progress and has an excellent surgp.ry crew that works
well with the staff and that all concerned want resolution to the
problem at hand. But, overall, problems are directly or indirectly
attributable to one physician. Mr. Wee concurred & added this
physician causes morale problems with his staff due to his
continual "stirring the pot" attitude. Memberstll:3Cussed personnel
