1969-25 Amending Chapter 3 to Clarify Income for Man and Wifen n 2 I KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ORDINANCE NUMBER 69 -25 -0 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3 SECTION 7.1 OF THE ING KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH CODE OF ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS BY REPEALz' AND MEAN THRECLARIFY HOUSAND INTENT SO THAT THE SAME( DOLLARS TOTAL INCOME FOR MAN AND WIFE and NO /100ths BE IT ORDAINED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly that Chapter 3, Section of of the Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances and Resolutions is hereby repealed and re to read as follows: Section 7.1 Deferment of Taxation: residential property owned and occupied by a citizen who s the One piece of by the following requirements as defined b meet Social Security Act; retired insured man or woman, age sixty-two (minimum) and n d age (standard); widow age sixty (minimum) and age sixty -two (standard); disabled widow, age fifty (minimum) and age sixty -two (standarcU; disabled dependent widower, age fifty (minimum) and aged sixty -two (standard); dependent husband of retired or disabled wife,j age sixty -two (minimum) and age sixty -five (standard); dependent widower, no option, age sixty -two (standard); who is a resident of the Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska, and who had an annual income for the preceding calendar year of not more than THREE THOUSAND and No /100ths ($3,000.00 ) DOLLARS, total income from all sources includnc sp °useg earnings, if married, the property tax on the property ownec4 by such citizen up to and including the amount of TWO HUNDRED FIFTY and No /100ths ($250.00) DOLLARS shall be deferred providing such ( senior citizen of the Kodiak Island Borough has been a resident of the State of Alaska for not less than ten (10) is the head of the household, and Years last past and providing that not more than one age One, ORDINANCE NO. 69 -25 -0 2 i 1 ceferment shall be allowed to any one person per year. This exemption is not automatic but must be applied for. The applicat must be accompanied by copies of the previous calendar year's Federal Income Tax returns. The deferment may be applied for at any time during the year by each qualified citizen, but not later than Aug. 1 of the current tax year. Each application shall be presented to the Borough Assembly for approval and must receive an i affirmative vote from all of the Assembly members present before the deferment is granted. Any citizen whose property is listed on the foreclosure list at the time this ordinance becomes effective and would be qualified for deferment under the terms hereof as to age, income and residency at the time the taxes became due shall be (included, provided that the application and documentation is pre- sented for consideration by the Assembly within sixty (60) days after this ordinance becomes effective. All taxes deferred under this provision shall remain as a lien upon the property and shall become due and payable upon transfer of the property or upon death lof the senior citizen to whom the deferment was granted.
