This requires a new 1000 gallon DEC Approved septic tank. A new trench will be connected to the new tank. The native soil is a silty sandy gravel; to be confirmed during construction. The trench is to be constructed with 5' effective depth of drain rock with 2' minimum cover. This is a large lot, separation distances should be checked to all water wells and surface water prior to construction. An application rate of 1.2 GPD/FT2 was used for sizing the absorption trench. The new septic system may be constructed in the general drawing location. Trench length = 375 FT2 /5' x 2 = 37.5', say 38'. Specification Requirements: All components and work must comply with the State of Alaska Drinking Water Regulations and Wastewater Regulations. • Two compartment septic tank, 1000 Gallons; State DEC Approved • Watertight couplings on inlet & outlet • 5'- 10' minimum between the tank and bed. Recommend 10' to property lines • Maintain a minimum 100' separation between private water well/surface water and absorption trench. • Maintain a minimum 25' separation between private water well and private sewer service line • 10' minimum between trench & foundation, trench & property line • . 2' minimum cover is required for trench. • Solid pipe must be set on well compacted, stable soil •, 4 inch diameter cleanouts with airtight caps are required prior to any 90 degree bend in 4 inch line. • _ All cleanouts must extend to at least ground level _ In solid pipe runs, Schedule 40 ABS or Equal may be used in lieu of cast iron • Trench to be placed level, minimum of 4 feet to groundwater, 6 feet to bedrock from drain -rock • Drain rock to be 3/a inch to 3 inch screened or equal. Drain rock to be distributed uniformly throughout the trench. • , Perforated pipe to be installed level with perforations down • Silt barrier (filter fabric) to be installed above the drain rock • Bed foundation must be raked or scarified before drain rock placement • The finish grade must be mounded to promote drainage away from trench • Insulation must be placed over any pipe installed under driveways or parking areas • Approved pipe materials include cast iron, Schedule 40 ABS or Equal, PVC ASTM F789, ABS ASTM D2662, PVC ASTM D3034, (ABS ASTM D2751 & HDPE ASTM F810 in Leachfield but not Standpipe) • Septic Tank to be pumped every two years or when required • Insulation board shall be extruded direct burial polystyrene (Dow Styrofoam HI or equal) Place Trench Level.
